Voter lists published in Cuba

Lists of eligible voters were published today in Cuba in anticipation of the October 21 elections for delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power.

As of today, Cubans with the right to vote can check for errors, changes or omissions in their personal data in order to cast their vote in the upcoming elections.

According to the National Electoral Commission the lists will be posted within the constituent electoral districts so that they can be thoroughly checked by the population.

The local authorities will address potential voters’ complaints once they have visited residences to verify the accuracy of information on the published lists.

This year, the local documentation effort is supported by a state organization charged with the task.

In Cuba, everyone aged 16 and over is automatically included on the lists of voters, excluding only those with a mental disability or legal exclusion.

The Cuban general elections have already begun with the nomination of candidates, a process carried out within these same local constituencies.

This October 21, new members of Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power will be elected and a second round has been planned for constituencies in which no one candidate receives at least 51% of votes cast.

The date of elections for Provincial Assembly delegates and Parliamentary deputies will be announced shortly, in line with the convening of this 13th electoral process.
