Morales Upholds Bolivian Unity
President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, emphasized the responsibility of his government on Tuesday, regarding the defense of national unity and said he favored autonomy, but with integration.
In a meeting of his Cabinet with authorities of eastern Santa Cruz Department, Morales called on the people to not mistake an autonomous regime for independence or division of the country.
He also explained that it is up to the Constituent Assembly to draft the future Constitution and develop the new State, including geographic and administrative demarcation of departments.
Autonomy is a long-standing demand of the indigenous peoples, which have wanted self-determination for many years.
In this regard, Morales ratified the decision of the Executive to defend and respect the Constitution.
