Chiapas Benefit Gig
Mine, 25 January 2007 at 8.00pm
£3.00
This Easter 27 geography students are taking part in a groundbreaking field trip in the state of Chiapas, southern Mexico, and the Zapatista autonomous communities that reside there. Several community projects (including independent media, alternative technology, community research) will be visited during the trip, and in order to make a donation to them, a benefit gig featuring Kid iD, Trans Pangaean Express and Richard Kitson, is being held at Mine.
Kid iD describe themselves as “acoustic driven music with brass,” but this does not do it justice. Reviews such as: “Kid iD have things to say and music worth hearing, take note,” (Student Guru) and: “They’re tight as a gnat’s back passage and ooze talent,” offer more of an insight to the pedigree of their sound. Having recently headlined the Cockpit, this could be your last chance to catch them in an intimate venue, whilst also easing your conscience for a very reasonable price.
Trans-Pangaean Express are the latest band formed by Pete Wright, former bassist for anarchist punk band Crass. This latest incarnation promises “skyrocketing jazz, blues, rock geniuses“ and promises to broaden your musical horizons as you rapturously enjoy this experienced group’s performance just for you, and the people of Chiapas.
Richard Kitson will get the night started with a superb blend of acoustic folk-blues. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy a real songwriter while he is still playing midsize venues.
During the night there will also be an opportunity to win some fantastic prizes in the raffle and discuss the projects you will be supporting.
All funds raised at this gig will go towards the community projects in Chiapas. For more information on the event, or Chiapas, email p.chatterton@leeds.ac.uk.
