Cuba Exposes the Two Faces of US to UN

At the UN General Assembly Thursday, Cuba descried the US pretension in acting as judge and jury for others over traffic of humans and drugs and terrorism, while its own actions leave much to be desired.US Citizens Prohibited from Cuba

When addressing the General Assembly Third Commission for Crime Prevention and International Drug Control, Cuban diplomat Jorge Cumberbatch pointed out that the fight against these phenomena does not allow for double standards and much less for they hypocritical and unilateral certification of UN nations as “good or diabolical”.

The diplomat said it is inconceivable that the US could judge others about drug traffic when that dirty business generates between 13.6 and 48.4 billion dollars in its territory, at a social cost of over 180.9 billion dollars.

The Cuban official also termed it absurd for the US to set rules in fighting trafficking of humans since it has an anti-Cuba law to promote illegal, unsafe migration.

Cumberbatch asked how it was possible for the US to declare itself champion of the world"s anti-terror drive when it prepares to release notorious terrorist and assassin Luis Posada Carriles.

Posada Carriles bombed a Cuban airliner midflight killing all 73 people aboard on Oct 6, 1976, planted bombs in Cuban hotels in the 1990s and plotted President Fidel Castro´s assassination.

What is important is important is to reaffirm and respect the international laws in force on terrorism, drug control, transborder crime, trafficking in humans and corruption, the Foreign Ministry official said.

He also reaffirmed that Cuba will continue its struggle against these scourges and pledged support to all efforts to impede the use of its territory in criminal activities against the people of the United States or any other country.
