Ecuador Have-nots in FTA Power Play
Quito
The Federation of Farmers, Indigenous and Black Organizations (FENOCIN) is Thursday staging new protests against the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the US in Quito.
FENOCIN leader Pedro de la Cruz said the movement is rallying at the Congress and Executive headquarters to denounce the government´s hostile position and buck that deal´s signing.
He made a call for the remaining indigenous and social groups to unite without being frightened by the brutal police crackdown on peaceful anti FTA-protests.
De la Cruz warned that demonstrations could intensify if the administration does not release the 55 FENOCIN leaders arrested Wednesday across Ecuador.
