Bolivia Defense Funds out of Closet

La Paz
The Bolivian Congress has annulled Thursday the secret use of spending on national security, stipulating that statistics must be public information.

However, the opposition, as part of its political offensive on the government, accused the Executive of not fulfilling the promise to eliminate the secret spending by previous administrations on corruption and repression.

Meanwhile, Treasury Minister Luis Arce committed to monthly submit to the parliament the budget for those resources, equivalent to 3 million dollars.

Once in office, President Evo Morales said that money could not remain secret as it was only assigned to steal and kill.

The government explained that for technical reasons, the funds cannot be cancelled but the secret nature of their spending can.
