Uruguay, Chile Ink Accords

"I am happy to be among Uruguayan friends," said Chile´s President Michelle Bachelet after meeting with her counterpart Tabare Vasquez, with whom she signed important agreements.

In a brief meeting with the press on Wednesday evening, Vazquez and Bachelet praised the excellent state of bilateral relations, exchanged opinions and examined issues of mutual interest.

Signed agreements include cooperation in science, technology, energy and exports, fostering small and medium companies, avoiding double taxation, encouraging investment and training productive associations among the countries.

The two heads of State also tackled with special interest the strengthening of democracy and governability in these countries and in the region.

As for regional integration, Vazquez and Bachelet reaffirmed their governments´ commitment to the South American Community of Nations and highlighted the importance of the two central Ocean pass-ways between Montevideo and Valparaiso, in Chile, reflected in a joint declaration.
