President Bachelet Announces Substantial Increases in Government Pensions

The President stated that she would soon send Congress a bill to increase supplementary pensions, minimum pensions and transitional pensions by 10%. This measure will benefit more than 1.2 million Chileans, and will come at a cost of more than 180 million US dollars.

The initiative will provide "a basis for a great social welfare system that will include all Chileans," stated the President, who met with senior citizens participating in community activities at the Civic Center of the Santiago-area district of San Joaquín.
