Commander Arias Cardenas appointed Venezuelan Ambassador to United Nations

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias' comrade-in-arms, Lt. Colonel (ret.) Francisco Arias Cardenas has been proposed as Venezuela's new Ambassador to the United Nations (UN).

National Assembly (AN) foreign policy committee president, Saul Ortega has confirmed the appointment.

* The National Assembly committee will discuss the appointment and bring its recommendations to a AN plenary session on Thursday for approval.

There had been rumors that the Commander would be getting a top government position and some analysts had him down for Foreign or Interior Minister.
