Cuba on Eve of Women´s Day
Havana
Cuban women will celebrate this March 8 their development as a direct fruit of the country´s revolutionary process.
This was expressed by Yolanda Ferrer, general secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC, in Spanish), who also said the organization represents over 86 percent of the island's women.
"The main thrust behind our development has been a Revolution that since its beginning on January 1, 1959, put women in an important place, and the FMC has been part of that battle since the beginning," stated the FMC executive.
"The women´s situation in Cuba is important. Before the revolutionary triumph, we were second in the Cuban society, and our presence today has expanded to all levels of the country's social and economic life," noted Ferrer.
The Peoples´ Power Assembly deputy said women represent 45.2 percent of the active labor force in the state civil sector, and 66.4 percent in technical and professional force.
