Colombian Prez to Visit Bolivia

La Paz
Mar 11
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe is scheduled to arrive in Bolivia on Tuesday to discuss with his counterpart Evo Morales the negative effects of the Free Trade Agreement between his country and the United States.

The visit was coordinated by Evo Morales and the Colombian foreign minister, when both attended Chilean president Michelle Bachelet´s inauguration, Bolivian Vice President Alvaro Garcia reported.

He said Morales and Uribe will deal with issues of common interest, mainly Colombian market preferences to Bolivian oleaginous plants, agreed in the Andean Community of Nations (CAN), which would cease due to the Colombia-US FTA.

According to Garcia, government leaders will meet soy-producing businessmen before Uribe´s arrival, to define a strategy oriented to preserve the Colombian market.

Uribe´s interest in discussing the trade difference with Morales was transmitted to the Bolivian president by CAN General Secretary Alan Wagner, by a Colombian president´s request.
