Chileans to Warmly Welcome Evo Morales

Santiago de Chile
Thousands of Chileans are prepared to welcome in Santiago on Friday President Evo Morales, the first Bolivian statesman to attend an inauguration ceremony in Chile since the 70´s.

The Bolivian leader, with a full agenda during his two-day visit, will be welcomed Friday by the Chilean outgoing president, Ricardo Lagos, at the governmental headquarters, and afterwards will meet with President Elect Michelle Bachelet.

During their meeting, Morales and Bachelet will discuss important topics between both countries, such as the former´s demand for sea access.

That Bolivian demand is the main topic for bilateral relations and it is an effect of the War of the Pacific, in which Chile conquered the Bolivian coasts and geographically cloistered that country.

More than 400 social and political organizations said they were ready to give a mass welcome to Morales late Friday afternoon at the National Stadium, where the leader will give an important message of friendship from his country's people and authorities.
