Venezuela Faces Intl Media War

The Venezuelan government is at the eye of an international media campaign aimed at promoting destabilization and tarnish the image of the country, in contrast to the recent steps giant toward integration.

According to President Hugo Chavez, one such action deals with the alleged existence in Venezuelan territory of camps of the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Other stories refer to this nation as an ideal spot for drug trafficking, and say the solution could be the presence of armed forces from other countries to end those alleged irregularities.

In this connection, Chavez urged the US and its allies to not play with fire, as it would be really sad if "its world domination efforts lead to a war between brothers" but, he sustained, "we all know it is capable of doing that and a lot more."

Meanwhile, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro affirmed from Montevideo that such moves are an attempt to justify the Colombian government's abrupt discontinuation of President Chavez' fruitful endeavors for a humanitarian pact in that country.

Similarly, there are intentions to involve Caracas in the case of tycoon Guido Antonino, accused a few weeks ago of trying to smuggle 800,000 dollars into Argentina.

Washington is now trying to link that case with the argument that the money was to fund the campaign of Argentine President Cristina Fernandez, which Chavez called a great lie.
