ALBA TV to Start Broadcasting Soon

The new alternative TV station ALBA-TV will start broadcasting in Venezuela on June 2, on the local public cannel VIVE, it was reported here on Sunday.

The new TV station will broadcast daily programs that other Latin American and Caribbean community stations can download from the Internet, according to the ALBA-TV website.

The new TV station involves social movements and communities, and is aimed at creating an international community channel that will be an articulating, educational and creative tool for the peoples.

The project to create ALBA-TV came up in late 2006 in Caracas, during the First Congress on Communication towards Socialism, sponsored by VIVE and Venezuelan community TV stations.

The Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) is a regional integration mechanism founded by Cuba and Venezuela. Bolivia and Nicaragua joined later, and Haiti and Ecuador are expected to become members soon.
