Heart-Attack Stricken Pinochet Given Last Rites

Former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, has been given last rites , after having suffered a heart attack early Sudnay morning.

Pinochet, who has been under house arrest for two weeks, was taken to the Santiago Military Hospital, where he was first reported to be in stable condition.

"We are now in the hands of doctors," his youngest son Marco Antonio said. "My father is in very bad condition."

Pinochet is now battling pulmonary edema, a condition where the lungs slowly fill with fluid, CNN reported.

He marked his 91st birthday on November 25 with a statement in which he took "full political responsibility for what happened" during his rule, for the first time ever. Pinochet has been charged with genocide, torture and terrorism in the deaths and disappearance of thousands.
