Urgent! Violent attack threatened against Oaxaca Activists

The PRI, or Priistas, are the ruling party (officially named the Institutional Revolutionary Party) in the state of Oaxaca. Since the mass mobilizations of Oaxacans began taking over government buildings and demanding the resignation of PRI governor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, many local police and Priistas have organized into militias guilty of attacking and firing on the barricades, killing teachers and other activists. That pattern seems set to repeat itself, possibly tonight.

Priistas are planning to remove CIPO out of the neighborhood by force!

-This call is being sent out by 2 members of the Pittsburgh Organizing Group, who are in Oaxaca to document the struggle and provide international solidarity. For more info on their activities or to donate to CIPO see http://www.organizepittsburgh.org/index.php?page=statements/oaxaca

This part of Santa Lucia is enemy territory. It is near Barricade Three, which government thugs from the PRI attacked last Friday. It is near the site of Brad Will's murder. It's also where the CIPO, the Consejo Indigena Popular de Oaxaca "Ricardo Flores Magon" (CIPO-RFM), house is located. CIPO is an important local organization that connects twenty indigenous communities in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. They work for the people, for a world of justice and dignity. They seek to create a free society with respect for the autonomy of all. When the Príistas first set up their barricades, some were directly in front of the CIPO house, one using materials that had been propped up against the outside wall. Now, less than a week after Brad Will's murder, some of the same Príistas have vowed to "dislodge" CIPO from the neighborhood. If history, recent and distant, teaches us anything, their method will be violence. It is important that they know that acts of violence will not go unseen, even in this small neighborhood that they control. International attention can make the difference in these situations. Please contact some or all of those listed below; tell them that if CIPO is attacked, that the Mexican state is responsible. And please also keep this particular situation in mind as solidarity actions are planned and carried out.
