Spanish Writer Stands up for Cuba

The US government"s blockade on Cuba provokes constant indignation, outstanding Spanish writer and novelist Belen Gopegui stated Saturday.

  • The academic told Prensa Latina that after reiterated votes by the UN General Assembly against that action, it is a pity the White House has not even reflected on its actions.

    The author of the novel "El Otro Lado Frio de la Almohada" (The Other Cold Side of the Pillow) talks of being increasingly impressed by the perseverance of Cuba in its condemnation of the blockade at the UN General Assembly.

    Gopegui also referred to the reaction of the European Union in the case of Cuba when highlighting incoherence of its vote in that body.

    He also slams the EU commitment to discourage investments in the island in compliance with the US Helms-Burton Act.
