More than 3 million students head for their classrooms
WITH a total enrollment of more than three million students, the 2006-2007 school year begins in Cuba today, in the continuing consolidation of the transformations in learning.
More than 13,400 schools and 3,000 municipal university extensions throughout the island opened their doors this Monday, except in the province of Guantánamo, which will begin the new year on September 6 due to the effects in that province of Tropical Storm Ernesto.
The City of Havana this year will have significant support from more than 4,200 young people from other provinces, who will help teach more than 77,000 students at the junior high school level.
As is customary, students will also join in the anti-vector campaign, to ensure the hygiene of their institutions and surroundings, and in that way contribute to that extremely important task, help to raise awareness among children and young people about protecting individual and collective health.
As in previous school years, the country has made a great effort to guarantee books, notebooks, exercise books, pencils and other school materials, with the best supply in recent years, while all students at boarding schools will have the corresponding uniforms and shoes.
