"Venezuela's fight for a seat at Security Council is against the US"
Venezuelan Foreign Affairs vice-minister for Latin America and the Caribbean Pavel Rondón said the fight Venezuela is waging to occupy a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council is against the United States, "that has repeatedly stated its opposition to such a possibility."
Regarding the victory of Felipe Calderón in Mexico presidential elections, he reiterated Venezuelan FM Alí Rodríguez Araque's concern on the way the results have been disclosed.
"We are closely monitoring this situation. His (Calderon's) victory has not been a disappointment. Official results will not make us happy or sad. We will simply acknowledge the result," he added.
When asked about Venezuelan ties with Peru and its President-elect Alan García's proposal to hold a meeting with President Hugo Chávez, Rondón said he had no news on that issue. He added, however, that the Venezuelan Government is willing to review relations with Mexico.
Rondón asserted that both the domestic and foreign public has a distorted image of Venezuelan foreign policy. "We are said to be isolated, alone, but results show that international relations have evolved. I am talking about the summit of the Southern Common Market, for instance."
