Ecuadorians Acclaim Hugo Chavez

Quito
May 30
Social, youth and grassroots organizations warmly greeted Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in Ecuador, when he arrived for an official visit to Quito on Tuesday to sign two energy agreements.

Tight security prevented people from gathering at the Plaza Grande in front of the government palace however, hundreds were able to break through the security cordon and stand near the square, shouting support for Chavez and the Bolivarian Revolution.

“Friend Chavez, Ecuador is with you", “We want a sister nation” and “Palacio, let the people go forward,” were among their chants.

Representatives of these organizations said they had planned to rally at the Plaza Grande to show support for Chavez.

Unfortunately we couldn´t make it to the square, but we have come from the entire country to support Venezuela and Chavez, said a leader of the Urban Forum group.

Chavez and his Ecuadorian counterpart, Alfredo Palacio, held closed-door talks at the executive headquarters before signing the accords for the refining of domestic oil in Venezuelan facilities and Caracas support to Ecuador´s infrastructure.
