Today, before the UN Security Council, Cuba emphasized the high cost of the innumerable terrorist acts perpetrated against the country over the last 40 years, almost all of which were organized from U.S. territory.
These accusations were presented by Ambassador Ileana Núñez, responsible for Cuban affairs in the UN, during a public meeting of the Security Council regarding “Threats Caused by Terrorism,” according to PL reports.
As a consequence of these acts, the diplomat recalled, 3,478 Cubans have been killed and another 2,099 have been wounded, not to mention the high economic cost to the country.
She pointed out that instead of preventing and punishing terrorism against Cuba, U.S. authorities keep five Cubans captive in prison, even after a panel of judges of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta decided to revoke their sentences.
The five were only trying, with incredible valor and altruism, to obtain information about terrorist groups located in Miami in order to prevent their violent acts and protect the lives of Cuban and U.S. citizens, explained the ambassador.
As an example of U.S. double standards in its supposed war on terrorism, Núñez stated that Washington still refuses to fulfill its international obligation to indict or extradite the notorious international terrorist, Luis Posada Carriles.
